239. Robert7 Calton (Thomas8) was born in Kirkmahoe, Dumfries, Scotland October 1800 (1851 Scotland Census). Robert died 16 March 1877 in Govan Poor House, Glasgow, Lanark, Scotland, at 76 years of age.
He married Mary MacKenzie 1833/1834. Mary was born 16 November 1811 in Dumfrieshire, Dumfrieshire, Scotland. Mary was the daughter of James MacKenzie and Jean Harris. Mary died 11 June 1891 in Govan, Glasgow, Lanark, Scotland, at 79 years of age.

241 ii. Mary Calton was born in London, Middlesex, England 29 April 1835. She was baptized 5 Jun 1836 at St John the Evangelist, Lambeth, Surrey. Her parents resided at Glouster Place at the time. She married James Weaver, Cabinetmaker, Oct/Dec 1878 in Brighton, Sussex.
242 iii. Ann Calton was born in London, Middlesex, England 5 May 1838. She was baptized 27 May 1838 at St John the Evangelist, Lambeth, Surrey. Her parents resided at Remington Green at the time.
243 iv. Jane Calton was born in London, Middlesex, England 4 November 1839. D: 29 July 1906 Salford, Lancashire. In 1862 she married Alexander Stewart McKenzie (b. 1833 d. 1886) in Oldham, Lancashire, England. They had:

246 viii. Marion Calton was born in London, London, England 12 February 1847. She married Alexander Murdoch 16 September 1867 in Hutchestown, Glasgow, Scotland. Alexander was born in 1843 in Scotland to James and Rebecca (Gregor) Murdoch. He died 12 Feb 1891 of "Nervous Debility - Pleurisy" at 38 Belgrave Street, Glasgow. Marion died 14 Aug 1909 at 43 Belgrave Street, Glasgow of Dropsy. Her death certificate states that she was the widow of Alexander Gregor Murdoch, Journalist. Witness, Alfred Murdoch. Alexander Gregor Murdoch was born in the northern part of Glasgow in April 1843, After receiving a meagre education he was early apprenticed to the trade of marine engineering and was a period thereafter employed by Messrs Singer. Without outside assistance he developed a literary bent, and contributed many poems - especially humorous ones - to the 'Glasgow Weekly Mail'. He was after a time able to publish a book of his poetry, and by 1879 he had issued three volumes of his poems. In this year he won the medal offered by the committee of the Burns Monument at Kilmarnock for a poem on the Ayrshire Bard. After this he became a member of the staff of the 'Mail' and wrote several serial stories - 'Fire and Sword' 'Sweet Nellie Gray', Bob Allan's Lass', etc besides issuing various other books. including 'Recent and Living Scottish Poets'. It is as a poet, however he will be remembered, as he had the real poetic chord in his nature. He died at his house in Bellgrove Street on 12th February 1901 [he actually died 12 Feb 1891]. - An excerpt from Dennistoun Past and Present by James Baird 1922.

247 ix. James McKenzie Calton was born in South Leith, Edinburgh, Scotland 1 June 1850. He carried on his father's business as a master joiner (cabinetmaker); m. Jeanie Morrison on 27 Dec 1877 at the Dollarie Lodge in in Madderty, Perth, Scotland. Jean was b. 1856 to Andrew Morrison and Margaret McGregor. She died 15 Mar 1920 of senility at 250 Crown Rd in Glasgow. James died 2 Aug 1897 of thyroid cancer. They had the following children:
